We do not know what effect we have on others. Just like a flower is unaware of its fragrance, we, too, are unaware of our positive or negative effects on others. We see the world only from our points of view. Egoistic people think they have real value and are gifts from God. Others may think they are mere specks of dirt, of no value to society. When others tell them about their value, they shed tears of humility. This happened to my Spiritual Master years ago when we all showed Him our appreciation and gratitude for being in our lives. He felt He was not worthy of our appreciation for His existence, and that it was God working through Him. Our lives are based only on what others gain from our existence.
