Say a rowdy fellow comes with a machine gun. (We have seen such cases, no?) He points and shoots at everybody. Say you are a police officer. You have a gun in your hand. What would you do? Wouldn’t you want to stop him? So you point your gun: “Hey, stop it, drop your gun.” If he drops it, OK. If he turns the gun on you, what would you do? Shoot him first. Even that, probably shoot below the hip, or the hand alone if you’re a sharpshooter. The idea is to stop him from doing that criminal thing. In such situation, even killing may be necessary. If you don’t kill him, he may kill many people. So the goal is: stop hurting anybody; bring some benefit to somebody. To do that, to live that kind of life, one should have complete control.
